Maria Echeverria Molina

Maria Echeverria Molina – Vice President

Degree Program: Mechanical Engineering PhD (3rd year)
Why she's in GWE: While being part of the industry for quite some time, I was able to witness the lack of women representation, especially in the STEM field. Coming back to grad school, I want to be part of a support group that leads the change and encouragement for women and minorities representation in this field.   
Favorite GWE Event: Speaker series is one of my favorites because we are able to engage with very talented and successful people and learn from their lives, career paths and even ask for tips!

Ashley Bird

Degree Program: Chemical Engineering (3rd year)
Why she's in GWE: My goal is to create a community to support womxn in STEM. I want to provide resources, opportunities, and connections to mentors to help womxn overcome barriers and navigate challenges they may come across in their graduate and post-graduate career.
Favorite GWE Event: The Ice Cream Social! It was a fun, casual event to start the year. The variety of toppings & flavors were a great ice breaker to get to know new students.

Why she's in GWE: I'm in GWE because it is a great way to meet and interact with the amazing womxn engineering graduate students at Berkeley and also to learn and grow from our professional development events.

Emily Carvalho

Emily Carvalho – Social Chair and Speaker Series Chair

Degree Program: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Why she's in GWE: I'm in GWE to meet and support other women in STEM outside my department
Favorite GWE Event: Speaker series, because I enjoyed receiving a candid view of what it's like to be a woman in STEM. I also loved the pumpkin painting because it was fun to see everyone's designs.

Ana Carneiro

Ana Carneiro – Social Chair and Outreach Chair

Why she's in GWE: I joined GWE to meet other womxn graduate engineers and to facilitate events that helped all of us grow and learn both professionally and personally. 
Favorite GWE Event: My favorite event last year was the Speaker Series! I enjoyed hearing about the different journeys of womxn engineers and scientists though graduate school and into their careers.

Why she's in GWE: I get to be a part of a supportive, friendly, and uniquely driven community of women in STEM! On top of this, GWE affords the opportunity to further my professional development journey through workshops, panels, and speaker series that allow me to interact with and learn from women in a wide array of careers.

Why she's in GWE: SWE has been my favorite way to make friends since undergrad! I love being involved with an org that lets me meet inspiring people in STEM 🙂
Favorite GWE Event: Ice cream social! It was a great way to meet everyone (but also, ice cream).

Why she's in GWE: As a member of GWE, networking, professional and social events, keeping up to date on opportunities, organized outreach and mentorship are just a few of the perks. I am proud to be part of UC Berkeley's local graduate division of SWE and am excited to further the mission of empowering womxn in engineering and of engineering in society. 
Favorite GWE Event: My favorite GWE events are the industry events where companies come to address and recruit.  These gave me a clearer idea of the variety of employees companies need to succeed.

Favorite GWE Event: Attending the GradSWE weSTEM Conference in Illinois was so inspiring; it motivated me for a tough semester!!!
