The 2023 Carol Baird Graduate Student Award for Field Research
The UC Berkeley Natural History Field Stations invite applications for:
The 2023 Carol Baird Graduate Student Award for Field Research

Awards will be granted to UC Berkeley graduate students to support high quality research that is carried out primarily in the field, based in or around Berkeley’s Natural History Field Stations:
  • Angelo Coast Range Reserve
  • Blue Oak Ranch Reserve
  • Hastings Natural History Reservation
  • Point Reyes Field Station
  • Sagehen Creek Field Station

The fifth competition will support field research beginning in 2023. Proposals of up to 5 pages (total), describing the project, its importance, proposed methods and logistics, and outreach plan can be submitted electronically to c.erickson@berkeley.edu by November 24th, 2022.

Awards of up to $25,000 will be made on the basis of merit. Funding may be requested for a single field season or multiple field seasons, and for work at or around a single or several reserves. Support allocations (amount per student, potential for renewal) are flexible, as long as the research is field-based, is of excellent quality, and is substantially improved by this support.

Further guidelines for proposal preparation can be found in the attached flyer. Please reach out to c.erickson@berkeley.edu with any questions about the application or award.
  • Community Updates

GWE-SWE Fall Food & Friendship Friday
GWE is partnering with SWE for an afternoon of fall food, warm drinks, and friendship. Join us on Bechtel Terrace Friday 11/11 from 1:30-3pm to connect with fellow GWE members and get the chance to meet friends in SWE. GWE-SWE joint events hope to encourage more overlap between the grad and undergrad programs to foster community building and mentorship relationships within and across the groups.
    Asian American Grad Student Conversation
The Let's Chat! program will be an ongoing series of semi-structured conversations among Asian American graduate students on multiple topics:

  • Graduate School as an Asian American student
  • Asian American diaspora and identity
  • Asian American identity as a politically unifying term
  • ...and more!

My goal is to help co-construct and facilitate these discussions with other Asian American graduate students and create opportunities for engagement with Asian American identity at UC Berkeley and in the Bay Area.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating on 11/8/2022 from 4:30-6pm!

Spaces are limited, so please only sign-up if you can attend the whole time! On-campus location will be emailed. It will be ADA accessible.
