The Art Rosenfeld Award for Energy Efficiency is a $10,000 fellowship awarded to a UC Berkeley graduate student in a Ph.D., Masters, J.D. or professional program who is committed to research on energy efficiency. This includes technical, social science and policy research that can lead to reductions in the use of energy.

About our Program:

Calico’s internship program is a paid 12-week program over the summer for students interested in understanding the fundamental science of aging and finding treatments for the associated and intractable diseases. Working in a collaborative environment and fully embedded in one of our labs/teams, Calico interns tackle a unique project under the mentorship of at least one of our scientists or engineers. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a demographic that is underrepresented within the technology, data science, and healthcare industries are encouraged to apply. This includes but is not limited to Black, Latinx, Native American, students with disabilities, veterans, and non-binary people.

Program Features:

• 3-month summer timeline

• In-person experience at our offices in South San Francisco

• Matching with at least one Calico mentor

• Group supplemental activities weekly featuring guest speakers, Senior Leadership spotlights, and discussion groups on aging science, our drug development approach, and more

• End-of-summer company-wide project showcase and poster session

The TLDP vision is to develop future leaders of BD’s R&D organization.

The program consists of three successively more challenging assignments (~18 months each) that span multiple businesses and / or locations within BD.

A personalized and dynamic career path is sculpted for each TLDP associate with the influence of senior R&D leaders and your personal skills and interests.

Program Qualifications:

• Outstanding Ph.D. graduates with significant leadership experience and technical depth in engineering, life sciences, or natural sciences fields:

  • Mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, biology, and related fields

• Early-stage career (less than 3 years of industry or postdoc experience outside the pursuit of a degree)

• Willingness and ability to relocate to different geographic locations

• To qualify for this position, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction to duration.

RUA invites grad students (and postdocs) in the mathematical, physical, and environmental sciences, and engineering fields at Berkeley to participate in activities and professional development workshops/networking events offered by the NSF-funded Research University Alliance (RUA), which Berkeley leads. RUA focuses on the advancement of underrepresented minority graduate and postdoctoral scholars that are pursuing academic careers in mathematical, physical, and environmental sciences, and engineering.Two RUA opportunities might be of particular interest to graduate students in STEM fields, the Research Exchange and the Postdoc Portal. The Research Exchange offers advanced PhD students and postdocs the opportunity to travel to any of the nine RUA universities for a ~1 week research-focused visit. The Postdoc Portal provides an automated matching service between scientists seeking postdocs and faculty seeking postdoc positions.
